John Schmela, 28, of Kittanning RD4 (North Buffalo Township) died Monday, July 4, 2005 in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin Township. He was born July 28, 1976 in East Franklin Township to Anthony and Patricia (Troup) Schmela. Mr. Schmela was employed with the Construction Laborers Union 1058, Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of Lenape Technical School, where he studied in the agriculture curriculm. He was a member of St. Lawrence Church, Cadogan. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and gardening. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed looking for arrowheads. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a lifelong resident of the community. Survivors include his wife, Jaime (Smith) Schmela, whom he married Sept. 13, 2003; one daughter, Johanna Schmela at home; his father and stepmother, Doris Schmela of Kittanning; one brother, Patrick Schmela of Worthington; one sister, Crystal Hankey and husband Benjamin of Ford City; and maternal grandparents, Paul and Alice Troup of Ford City. He was preceded in death by his mother; and paternal grandparents, John and Lillian Schmela. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Mantini Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Sixth Ave,. Ford City, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and a Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church, Cadogan with his pastor, the Rev. Edward Volz, O.S.P., officiating. Burial will be in Ford City Cemetery.
