Mrs. William F. Karst
Lydia Karst, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Templing was born November 25, 1894 at the family farm home in north Barton County, Kansas. She departed this life on October 22, 1967 at the Russell City Hospital in Russell, Kansas. Her age was 72 years, 10 months and 27 days.
A lifetime resident of the Milberger-Russell area, she was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Milberger on May 12, 1895 and on May 30, 1909, she was confirmed in the former Schneider Church in Barton County. On November 19, 1916 she was united in marriage to William F. Karst in the Milberger Church. There were 6 children born to this marriage. A son, Herbert, died while serving his country during World War II. After 30 years of farm life in the Milberger community, they moved to Russell to establish their home on 850 East 5th Street. In 1957 she suffered a stroke and for the past 10 years she was handicapped and unable to take part in many activities she was accustomed to. She became seriously ill and was admitted to hospital last September 3rd and 7 weeks later on Sunday afternoon at 3:40 p.m. with her family at her bedside, she peacefully passed away.
A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a gracious neighbor and friend and a faithful member of her church, Lydia Karst's many acts and deeds will forever be treasured and cherished by her husband, William of the home; the five children, Clarence of Dorrance, Kansas; Mrs. Calvin (Alvina) Templeton, Russell; Mrs. Raymond (Ruth) Miller, Hoisington; Elmer and Donald Karst, both of Russell. Also 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, David Templing, Great Bend; 3 sisters, Mrs. Hannah Margheim, Hoisington; Mrs. Peter Popp, Otis and Mrs. Ferdinand Karst of Hoisington, Kansas. Many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, 1 brother, Jacob, and 1 sister, Marie Templing.
Memorial service - Held Wednesday, October 25, 1967 from The Deines Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. followed by final rites from St. John Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. Pastor R. G. Sedo officiating.
