James W. Baker, 79, St. Augustine Road, Dysart, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Altoona Regional Health System, Bon Secours Hospital Campus. He was born Aug. 6, 1925, at Patton RD, son of the late Alphonsus and Romana (Warner) Baker. He was preceded in death by brothers: Bernard, Charles, Herman and Clarence; and sister, Orlena.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Huber, whom he married April 11, 1953, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson; children: Ramona L. Baker Wingate (Craig) of Altoona, J. Philip "Pete" (Cecelia Domanski) of Harrisburg, R. Anthony "Tony" (Cindy Sprouse) of Strasburg and Mariah Hanson (William) of Oil City; five grandchildren; and was the brother of Francis in Ohio, Monica of Ebensburg, Paul of Hastings, Ruth O'Donnell of Cresson, Delores Young of Cheswick and William E. of Navarre, Ohio.

He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He had worked as a pharmaceutical salesman for Pfizer Co., New Yorkk, for 38 years, retiring in 1990, and had owned and operated the St. Augustine Tavern for a number of years. Jim enjoyed hunting. Member of the Patton Sportsmen and Trap League. Life member of 7H Skeet Club. Third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Cresson, and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Joseph Fleming celebrant. Committal, St. Augustine Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation. Arrangements in charge of Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the St. Augustine Building Fund, c/o St. Augustine Catholic Church, 803 St. Augustine Road, Dysart, Pa. 16636, in Jim's memory.
