TEMPLETON, Harvey M., age 94 of Winchester, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee. He was born in Winchester and was a nurseryman/race car driver. He is survived by his wife, Jewel Templeton of Winchester; sons, Harvey Templeton III of Cleveland and Handly Templeton of Winchester; daughters, Jill Sideman of Tiburon, California, Avery Lloyd of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Ann Cameron of Sewanee; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sir John Templeton of the Bahamas. Graveside service was Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Winchester Memorial Park in Winchester, Tennessee.

Templeton, 94, Passes --

Harvey M. Templeton, Jr., of Winchester, a member of a prominent Franklin County family, died Friday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. He was 94 years old.

Born in Winchester, he was a retired nurseyman and earlier in life had been a national circuit race car driver.

A pioneer in the nursery business, in 1961 he won the Slater Wight Memorial Award for advancement of the nursery industry in the South and the welfare of the Southern Nursery Association.

He was the brother of Sir John Templeton, a resident of the Bahamas, who is a world-renowned financier and philanthropist. He established the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion and was knighted in 1987 by Queen Elizabeth II.

A graveside service was held Sunday at Winchester Memorial Park with Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in charge.

Survivors, in addition to his brother, include his wife, Jewel Templeton, Winchester; two sons, Harvey Templeton, III of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Handley Templeton of Winchester; three daughters, Jill Sideman, Tiburon, California, Avery Loyd, Greensboro, North Carolina, and Ann Cameron, Sewanee; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
