Private Edward K. Chapman served during the Civil War in Company E, 20th Maine Infantry. On June 3rd 1864, during the battle of Cold Harbor the 20th Maine was on the far right of the battle line near Bethesda Church where he was shot in the left shoulder. For 5 or 6 months he recovered at a military hospital in York, Pennsylvania then returned to duty with the 20th Maine who were at Petersburg, VA.
