Carter, William K., 88, of Sarasota Fla., formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Feb 9, 2012.

Survivors include wife, Joan; children, William K., Jr. (Patricia Napier) of Centerville, Ohio, Nancy E. (Paul) Anderson of Franklin, Tenn., Susan C. Bodley of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Gregory S. of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Vivian Weiss of Pasadena, Calif.; brother, Victor (Norma) of Beavercreek, Ohio and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife, Janet Carter.

Born Dec. 15, 1923, to Forrest & Golden Carter of Hazard, Ky., Bill moved to Dayton and attended Roosevelt High School where his violin and Big Band musical talents caught the eye of future bride, Janet Kemper.
Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Naval Aviator, and his love of flying later earned his induction as a charter member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Bill graduated from The Ohio State University and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. After representing various furniture manufacturers, he formed his own company, William Carter & Associates. An avid golfer, Bill was a charter member of Sycamore Creek Country Club, Springboro, Ohio, and a member of TPC Prestancia, Sarasota, Fla. He also had a great love of family, friends, music, animals, reading, & travel.
The family will receive friends at the Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am. Pastor Donald Payne officiating. Interment, David's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford St., Boys Town, NE 68010, Salvation Army, or Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Online condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
