J. Doyle Jones, 81 years young of Springfield, Missouri, went to be with his Lord on February 15, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, from a very sudden illness. He was surrounded by his family. Doyle was born March 26, 1930 in Bexar, Arkansas, the son of JV and Verna Jones. Following graduation from Viola High School, he attended college at Arkansas State to pursue his love of agriculture. He joined the ROTC and was drafted as a second Lieutenant in the Korean War, leading an artillery Battalion and earning a Bronze Star for bravery.

Doyle continued his service to others by educating the public and giving 35 years to the University of Missouri Extension Service. He began his career in Houston as a county agent and through promotions moved his family to Jefferson City, Rolla and then Springfield when he became the Area Director of 18 counties in the Lakes County Region. During his career he earned a Masters Degree in Soil Fertility. His life after retirement was spent with family, friends and using his green thumb as a Master Gardener to grow every flower, fruit, vegetable, and plant that was possible and then shared with others.

Doyle continued educating others while helping with the local SCORE Chapter and enjoyed giving back to his community and sharing his wisdom. His service to the Lord included using his voice in the church choir, participating on various committees, all while serving as a Deacon. His passions were bird watching, hunting, fishing, and playing golf, all with his buddy and son, Mike.

He is survived by his wife Debbie; daughters, Judy Stainback, of Springfield, Susan Towner and husband Mark of Jefferson City; son, Mike Jones and wife Karen of Springfield; stepchildren, Kathy Harris and her brother Jim Knight; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. J. Doyle was preceded in death by wives, Perry Nell Knight and Rosalie White.

A celebration of Doyle's life will be held Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 460 West Aldersgate Drive, Nixa, MO 65714, at 2:00 pm, followed by Military Honors and inurnment at King's Way United Methodist Church, 2401 S Lone Pine Ave. Springfield, MO.
