Philip D. Sweeney, 49, of 19 Shady Ave., owner and operator of a vending machine business in the area, died Sunday in Leominster Hospital. Mr Sweeney was born in Clendenin, West Virginia, July 26, 1926 and lived in Westminster for 12 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a member, past commander and former manager of Westminster Post 7389, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Parish; a past president of the Westminster Lions Club; a delegate to the Lions International Convention and vice-chairman of the local Democratic Committee. He leaves his wife Dolores (Moessinger) Sweeney; two sons, James P. and Robert C. Sweeney, both of Westminster; two daughters, Mrs. Sharon A. Casavant of Gardner and Miss Sandra K. Sweeney of Westminster; his parents, Mr and Mrs. Bernard Sweeney; a brother Paul Sweeney and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Dye all of West Virginia and three grandchildren. The funeral was held this morning from the Lamoureux Funeral Home, Gardner, with a funeral Mass in St. Edward the Confessor Church. Interment will be in Snyder Cemetery, Queen Shoals, W. Va, Tuesday. Note: A tribute in the Gardner News stated that in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Center for Brain Injured Children, Fitchburg, Mass.(his favorite charity).
