It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Rev. Raymond Calderon Acosta, who went to be with the Lord on Feb. 9, 2012, at the age of 82.

Raymond was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Oxnard to Miguel and Julia Acosta. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his military service Raymond married the love of his life, Lydia Bustillos, on Oct. 9, 1951, in Phoenix, Ariz., and they were inseparable for 60 years. In the early 1960s he worked for Costal Chemical Company and later worked at point Mugu for computer science. He also worked for Port Hueneme Naval Base in the 1980s, and then retired from the City of Oxnard.

Raymond was a faithful member of Oxnard Revival Center Apostolic Church for over 52 years. He was baptized January 1960 and was ordained a minister in 1962. His love for the Lord's work lead him to be the director of the evangelism ministry where he touched and changed many lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel in 1967, and Julia in 1982; his brothers, Alfonso C. Acosta, Andrew C. Acosta; his sister, Carmen Valencia; and his beloved son, Steven R. Acosta in 1979.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lydia B. Acosta; brothers, Miguel C. Acosta, Frank M. Acosta; sister, Julia Torres; children, Mary Louise (Mona) Hernandez (husband David), Elizabeth L. Ramos (husband Hector), Lydia B. Acosta, Noemi L. Willoughby (husband Michael); grandchildren, David Hernandez Jr., Steven Acosta, Michelle R. Hernandez, Hector F. Ramos Jr. (wife Briza), Anthony R. Ramos, Shantal R. Olson, Selena L. Ramos; great-grandchildren, Ethan D. Ramos, Nathan A. Olson, Sophia B. Hernandez, Gavin P. Ramos and Jovanni D. Hernandez.

Raymond was greatly loved and though the pillar of our family is gone, our memories of him and his legacy will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Oxnard Revival Center, El Rio. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Oxnard Revival Center. Burial will be held 12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park with military honors.

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."
