Our beloved "Papang" Renato Filipinas, 62, was called to eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Renato was born in Cavite City, Philippines, on Nov. 28, 1949, to the late Agustin and Natividad Filipinas; he is the second eldest son.

Renato was preceded in death by his parents, Agustin and Natividad. He is survived by the love of his life and wife, Teofila Filipinas. Together they have raised four sons, Roy Erwin (Coleen), Russell Boyd (Monaliza), Raymond Harold (Meshyll), and Richard Paul (CherryMie); grandkids, Rae Marie, Reece Keile, Ryan Christian, Raizel Mei, Rian Joseph, and Rhianne Natalie. Surviving in addition to his direct family are his siblings, Purisimo (Crisanta) of Virginia Beach, Va., Editha (Filomeno), and Emelita (Robert); numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Renato and his family are parishioners of Padre Serra Parish, St. Mary Magdalen, and Mary Star of the Sea, members of the El-Shaddai-Oxnard Cell Group. As true Cavitenos, they always shared their devotion to the Patroness of Cavite City-Nuestra Seora Soledad de Porta Vaga.

Renato worked for Saudi Arabian Airlines for nearly a decade in Manila, Philippines. Upon arriving to California in 1991, he tried different trades to support his family; he eventually found a stable position as a machine technician at Technicolor Video Services. He worked until it's final production days before it was outsourced. He continued spending time with his loved ones and enjoyed the occasional fishing at the Hueneme Pier whenever he could. He loved to keep in touch with his CNHS Class of 1966 batch mates. He actively attended the daily rehabilitation at Oxnard Family Care where he made new friends.

Renato and his wife spent their free time watching over their grandkids and communing with God through their daily prayers, reciting the Holy Rosary, the Divine Mercy, and the countless enumeration of Psalm 91. Renato was a dedicated husband, father, brother, cousin and friend. He was generous with his time and energy, always attentive and compassionate to other's needs before his own.

We deeply grieve his passing but find great comfort knowing that he is resting with our Lord Jesus Christ together with our grandparents. They have left us with a tremendous legacy of profound love, happy memories, faith in God to share with his grandkids, and other great examples that will continue to live in our hearts. All will miss his great personality, friendly smile, and helpful advice.

Friends and family are invited to come and celebrate his life. Visitation/vigil will be held from 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, at Perez Family Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, at Padre Serra Parish in Camarillo. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard. Renato was entrusted to the care of Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, CA 93010.
