VENICE, FL - Alvin Dwayne Sagendorph, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, died Monday, April 18, 2011. Born in Hudson, New York, May 22,1921, the son of Leon T. Sagendorph and Emma C. George Sagendorph, and brother of Harold L. Sagendorph, all predeceased.
Alvin attended Poughkeepsie public schools and served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Elks Lodge #275, and a life member of Booth Hose Fire Company.
Employed by the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Dept for over 30 years, Alvin retired as Lt. Fire Inspector in 1981 to Venice, Florida, with his wife Gloria whom he married in 1949.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Gloria Gassett Sagendorph, daughters Allyn Sagendorph of Wapp. Falls, NY., JoAnn Joyce of Venice, Fl., and Wanda Shay of Tampa, Fl.; granddaughters Tonia Constable NY, NY., and Mary Shay of Tampa, Fl.
Services: Arrangements are with the National Cremation Society and burial will be in the Florida National Veterans Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
Contributions: Memorial donations may be made in Alvin's name to the Firemen's Retirement Home, 124 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534.
