DOVER, Ark. - Sharon E. McConnell, 59, formerly of Carthage, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at her home following a three-year illness.

Mrs. McConnell was born Aug. 5, 1941 at Clearsprings, Mo. to John and Velma Sherrill Houston. She moved to Carthage with her family as a young girl and graduated from Carthage High School in 1959.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, and a member of the Dover Garden Club. She worked in the personnel department at Fred's Frozen Foods, Carthage.

She married Denzil McConnell on Nov. 18, 1960 at Carthage. He survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Chance McConnell, Dover, Ark.; twin daughters, Tamara Navarro, Denver, Colo., and Pamara Lunn, Clarksville, Ark., a sister, Shirley Periman, Carthage; her parents, John and Velma Houston, Carthage; and six grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. Minister Bob Lyttle will officiate. Visitation is set for 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Knell Mortuary.

Sharon McConnell was born on August 5, 1941, the daughter of John and Velma Houston. She went to be with her Lord on January 14, 2001 after a long, courageous battle against cancer. She was born in Clear Springs, Missouri and moved to Carthage, Missouri when she was a young girl. She was a 1959 graduate of Carthage High School. She married Denzil McConnell on November 18, 1960; he survives. She is also survived by 2 daughters, Tammy Navarro and husband Lyndel, Littleton, Colorado, Pammy Lunn and husband, Mike, Pensacola, Florida and son Chance McConnell and wife Jackie, Miami, Florida. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Alissa Saliman, Alex Navarro, Shanna and Chelsea Shores, step-grandsons Michael and Justin Lunn, as well as her father John Houston, and sister Shirley Periman, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Her mother, Velma Houston is deceased. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. All who knew her loved her for her spirit, her sense of humor, and her beauty, which was both inside and out. She is gone from this world, but the love, beauty and grace she brought to everyone and every thing she touched will never die.
