Sarah Rebecca Little DeMarsh Mead Crawford

Sarah was wife of L Jay Crawford at the time of her death.
Sarah's first husband, Joseph Julius DeMarsh, disappeared in Tulsa OK about 1915. She had four children by him, two dying in infancy - Clarence and Cornelius. She married Eli Mead in 1921, who passed away, and her third husband was L Jay Crawford whom she married after 1928. Joseph had left her with three step children to raise, a single woman with no independent income. Sarah was heartbroken but had to find homes or give the children up - Freida Dorothy DeMarsh she found a home with a paternal aunt in Detroit, MI. She grew up and married Lawrence Snediker, having three children with him. Harold DeMarsh and Vincent DeMarsh she could not find homes for and had to relinguish them to an orphanage. Harold found a home but Vincent did not. Both boys and Freida continued to keep in touch with Sarah over the years, she was the mother they knew and loved. Harold went on to win honors and championship awards for wrestling, excelling in the new field of physical education. He attended University in Oklahoma City and married and raised his family there. Vincent's history was unknown for so long but was recently found. See his memorial #93582331 for further info. He is shown with Joseph Julius but not Sarah as she was not his biological mother, but her son in all ways but that.

After trying unsuccessfully to find her husband and quite destitute of funds, Sarah moved with her two biological children back to Wisconsin near her father home, where she worked in a children's home as it would allow her to keep her children with her. A few years later she returned to Oklahoma, perhaps in the hopes of finding some news or information on her husband. She finally had him declared legally dead and married again to provide for her family.
