Son of Jesse Young, Sr., and Margaret Eaton Wiley, Sr.

He was baptized on June 3, 1833 by Rev. David Monfort, according to the Infant Baptismal Register of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, Union Township, Johnson Co., IN.

He married Lana Ann Whitenack, daughter of Stephen Whitenack and Catherine Vandivier.

He was dismissed from the Shiloh Church on March 19, 1853, to move to Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA, where he worked as a carpenter.

He served during the Civil War in the Union Army, enlisting 1862, Co. E 33 IA Inf, and served 37 months. ("History of the 33d Iowa Infantry Volunteer Regiment, 1863-1866," Des Moines: Mills & Co., 1866)

They moved to Kansas in 1873, and by 1880, lived in Deer Creek, Phillips Co., KS. Jonathan's pension is dated 1880.

Lana Young died Nov. 2, 1884, and was buried with her two infant sons: Floyd E. Young and Frank Young. Her obituary identifies her as the wife of Jonathan, but does not indicate whether she outlived him.
