Mrs. Mabel L. Burke, 66, well known former resident and widow of the late Morgan Burke passed away at Miles City last Friday evening after a short illness.
The body has arrived here, and funeral services will be conducted at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home on Tuesday morning Dec. 20, at 11:00. The Rev. Richard F. Vick of the Van Orsdel Methodist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Burke was born at Hope, N. Dak., on Nov. 12,1883. Before her marriage on April 8,1917 at Spokane, Wash. she was a teacher of the piano. She continued this work after her marriage teaching at Minneapolis and Great Falls during their residence at those cities.
The Burkes came to Havre in 1934 from Glasgow. Mr. Burke being traveling superintendent for the Imperial Elevator Company, He later was appointed field manager for the state department of agriculture. He was interested in the grain marketing business throughout his adult life. Mr. Burke died in Havre January 1944.
Mrs. Burke had made her home in Miles City since June 1947. She had been ill only a few days and her death was entirely unexpected.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Darrel Gudmondson the former Patricia Burke of Miles City and Mrs. Jack Van Nortwick, the former Clarellen Burke of Redwood City, Calif. Mrs. Gudmondson is in Havre now, and Mrs. Van Nortwick is expected this evening.
Mrs. Burke is also survived by a sister Mrs. Harry Scoville of Pamona, Calif. and by four grandchildren
