Margaret Dethlefsen

Of SF Bay Area passed away at her home in Fair Oaks on December 4, 2007 at the age of 84. She was the second of four daughters born in Crawford, Nebraska to Ruth and William Harcourt.

She is survived by three loving daughters, Deb Cusimano, Patti Anderson, and Colleen Greenwell; sons-in-law, John Stoeser and Dale Greenwell and granddaughters, Carley Blackstock, Courtney Anderson and Kerri Williams. She is also survived by her loving sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and George Hulett Jr.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband for over 40 years, Carl Dethlefsen; recently her son-in-law, Al Hill; her two sisters, Patsy Parham and Dorothy Hickerson, and her loving brother-and sister-in-law, Jack and Kay Dethlefsen.

Margaret was a great-grandmother to Bailey Blackstock and Tonya Rodgers.

Marge was a beautiful woman, of spirit, substance and class, both inside and out. She adored meeting friends and family for lunch, not for the cuisine but for the company and conversation we all shared with each other, making her feel happy, complete and safe. She had an affinity for a good story and was proud of her Irish heritage. She loved to communicate by telephone, email, but especially in person. Everyone who knew her described her as upbeat, positive, generous and caring-a grand lady to the end. She loved Christmas and began fretting over what to buy for everyone early in November. Her greatest joy was in being with her family. Her guest room is currently filled with packages purchased early in the month-a bittersweet reminder of our loss. She was independent until the last week of her life, despite the huge challenges she faced-driving, dining, and checking her emails. We will greatly miss her easy smile and her eyes that would light up whenever we opened her front door. She is a precious gift to her husband and her loving friends and family who have patiently waited for her on the other side.

Marge was a huge animal lover. If people wish to make donations, they can donate to Shelter Dogs, 2127 Front St., Sacramento, CA 95818 in her name.

A celebration of her life will be on December 19th, her wedding anniversary, 1:00 p.m. in the Tower Chapel of Mountain View Cemetery on Piedmont Ave. in Oakland.
