Oscar Howes was my grandfather. He is of the Howes linage that came to America in 1637. In his line were also some of the first settlers in West Virginia in Upshur County. His father Granville owned his own mine there.
Oscar worked as a truck driver most of his life. He was a quite man. He and his 2nd wife Joyce retired and moved to Sun City, CA. He was a quiet man but would come up with some funny zingers . His wife did most of the talking. :)
In recent years I have looked through photos of him and Joyce and I can tell how close they were and how much they loved each other.
I remember before he passed Joyce gave us a box of photos that were taken in years past. At the time I didn't fully appreciate them. I discovered this box a few years ago in my parents garage. It contained photos of Oscar dating back to the early 1900s. It also contained some rare photos of his mom, grandmother and other ancestors going back into the 1800s. So glad she gave them to us. What a treasure!
