Mary was born in Trebetin, Bohemia, Austria. She immigrated to the U.S. when she was about 20 years old. She married Henry J Hann in 1883, most likely in Clayton County, Iowa, where Henry had lived from almost 20 years. Then they moved to Randolph, Riley, Kansas, where their first child was born. By 1885, they lived in Jackson, McPherson, Kansas and by 1895, they lived in Delaware, Jefferson, Kansas with three more children. In 1900, they lived in Trinidad, Las Animas, Colorado and by 1910, they had moved to Reading, Lyon, Kansas. It was listed in that census that Mary had given birth to 6 children and 4 survived.

By 1920, Mary was living in Venice-Santa Monica area of Los Angeles, California, listed as divorced, with her children living nearby. It is unclear what happened to Henry J Hann but Mary continued to live in this location until her death in 1949.
