Charles Wesley "Charley" Roadman was born in Dike, Grundy, Iowa, and died in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA. On June 22, 1915 in Fulton, Callaway, MO, he married Elizabeth N. "Betty" Nickell. They had two children: Mary Eleanor (1920-bef 2003), and James.

During WWI, Charley was the Overseas Secretary for the National War Work Council of the YMCA, and was stationed with the troops in the American Expeditionary Forces in France and later Great Britain. At the time of his application for passport (June 1918), he was living at 719 7th St., Minneapolis, MN and was a salesman. He was issued a letter from the US War Dept June 19, 1918, stating he was being sent for duty to the AEF in connection with the YMCA to serve with the troops in France and Great Britain enlisting for duration of the war.
