James Vincent was a silent film actor, who came to Hollywood from Baltimore, Maryland, where he met film star J. Warren Kerrigan. Vincent moved into Kerrigan's home, where they began a 25-year relationship. He was listed at various times as Kerrigan's secretary or gardener.

After Kerrigan's death in June 1947, Vincent married Mitty Turner on October 24, 1947. Ultimately, he committed suicide by illuminating gas one year later.
