DENISON - Retha Mansell, 87, of Denison died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Dallas. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Cherry Mound Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Stewart officiating. Burial will be at Cherry Mound Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
She was born February 21, 1924 in Clanton, Ala. to parents Lewis Henry and Emma Martin Abbott. She attended school in Clanton. She married Wilbur Leon Mansell on March 10, 1944 in Alabama, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1993.
She is a member of Cherry Mound Baptist, a homemaker, and a member of Gate City Chapter #77 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Ann Miles of Homer, La., Linda Joy Stevens and husband Dwight of Richardson, Texas; sister: Kay Jean Buckland of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren: Lamar Carter, Renee Cribbs, Candy Hicks, Buffy Miles; great-grandchildren: Heather Carter, Julie Carter, Bracken Cribbs, Cameron Cribbs, Ceanna Cribbs; great-great-grandchild: Christopher Rozak; and son-in-law Ed Carter.
She was preceded in death by daughter: Shirley Jean Carter; and two great-grandchildren: Mallory Hicks and Brett Gist.
