Opal Darlene Ackerman, age 92, of Ottawa, died February22, 2012, at Richmond Care Center. She was born on August 2, 1919 in Pomona, Kansas, the daughter of Emory L. Brubaker and Dolly M. (Nichols) Brubaker-Davis.

She was a lifelong homemaker and housewife. Her life was spent running the Ackerman household and she did so with grace and love. She was the consummate mother and caring wife. She was an extraordinary cook and enjoyed sewing. She loved to shop, a trait carried down to her daughters, and she enjoyed getting out in nature and going fishing with the family.
Opal was united in marriage with Edward Gerald Ackerman on August 31, 1937 in Ottawa. They shared 48 years of marriage before Edward passed away on May 7, 1986.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Ackerman; brothers, Marlan Brubaker, Theren Brubaker; sister, Lois Carey; and son-in-law, Jim Weidner.

Opal is survived by two daughters, Berneda Griffin and her husband, Adrian, of Flower Mound, Texas, Joyce Weidner of Ottawa; daughter-in-law, Sharon Ackerman of Salmon, Idaho; grandchildren, Rod Griffin and his wife, Phyllis, of Saches, Texas, Troy Griffin of Frisco, Texas, Kim Griffin McFarland and her husband, Jerry, of Flower Mound, Texas, Theren Weidner of Ottawa, Scott Weidner and his wife, Billie Jo, of Ottawa, Keith Weidner of Ottawa, Ronda McCord and her husband, Tony, of Ottawa, Steve Ackerman of California, Rodger Ackerman and his wife, Dawne, of Salmon, Idaho; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cherry Street Wesleyan Church, c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral
