She was born May 28, 1928, in Wheeling, WV, daughter of the late Louis and Bessie Smoyer Ruthers.
Ruth graduated from Warwood High School and went on to retire as the Secretary for the Garden Center formerly known as John Dieckmann & Sons Florist, Wheeling, WV. She was an active member of Elm Grove United Methodist Church, where she was also a Sunday School Teacher. Ruth volunteered for The Tutorial Reading Program at Ohio County Schools and was a past active member of the PTA.
She loved taking summer vacations with her husband and family. She was a doting grandmother to her grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Finsley in 1981; two sisters, Betty Radcliffe & Martha Piehowicz; four brothers, James, William, John and Richard Ruthers; son-in-law, Stanley Baniak; and granddaughter, Lia Hummingbird-Ciszewski.
Ruth is survived by her four daughters, Dr. Bonnie (Dewey) Finsley-Satterfield of Plant City, FL, Kathy M. Finsley of Wheeling, WV, Carol Finsley Baniak of Brownsville, PA and Jill Finsley (Earl) Buono of Wheeling, WV; adopted daughter, Mary Letzelter; three sisters, Josephine Taggart, Mary Jane Patterson and Sara Dillon; two brothers, Thomas & David Ruthers; four grandsons, Matthew Shawn (Jodi) Paul, Chad Michael Ciszewski, Eric William (Angela Ullery) Baniak and Trevor William (Jenna) Ciszewski; six great-grandchildren, Cory Paul, Lexi Baniak, Mason, Chayce and Grayson Ciszewski, and Declan Hummingbird-Ciszewski; and many beloved nieces & nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM at Elm Grove United Methodist Church, 125 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 with Reverend Jennifer J. Roller-Otto officiating. Interment will follow in Short Creek Cemetery.
