Born in Carlisle, SC, on December 14, 1928, son of the late James Edward "Jim" Roberts (1902–1990) and Ida Maude Sanders Baldwin-Roberts (1894–1961); husband of Mildred Knox Roberts (1930–1992).
Retired from J.P. Stevens, Jonesville Plant, and was formerly employed with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant; was a member of Gilead Baptist Church; and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his son, James Thomas (Nita) Roberts (1952–2012); stepson, Ed Knox; grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Julian (Peggy) Roberts (1931–2012); and sister, Polly Roberts Alexander.
Also predeceased by a daughter, Susan Louise Roberts (1953–1969); sister, Betty Jean Roberts Boulware (1933–2008); half siblings, David Franklin Baldwin (1914–1967), Mary Pearl Baldwin Lipsey (1915–2007), John William Baldwin (1916–1999), Robert Roy Baldwin (1918–2000), and Margaret Baldwin McCoy (1919–1993).
Funeral services were 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Lawton Neely; the burial was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held 1:00-2:00 pm, Saturday, in the church prior to the service.
