LaVern was born on Nov.7, 1925, in Monterey, Minn., to Lloyd and Sarah (Noble) Semans.
She married Grover "Bud" Defenbaugh, Jr. on June 16, 1945. He passed away June 27, 1996.
Surviving is sister, Honey-Martin of Streator; a sister-in law, Tootie Finkenbinder of Cornell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy and James Cairns and Merle Semans; and sisters, Beulah "Booie" Fredericksen, Sarah Benge and Viola Carlson.
She was a member of Community Lutheran Church in Cornell and Pontiac Elks.
She loved ballroom dancing and playing cards. LaVern was employed for 10 years at National Tea Co. in Streator, Defenbaugh Trucking and Ancona Grain for 26 years, retiring in 1986.
