2013 Received word that another memorial had just been made for James Gabriel Rhodes, my great uncle that includes the following obituary:
"Riceville, Mar 3 - James Gabriel Rhodes died at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning of the infirmities of old age. Deceased was born in the state of New York and was 79 years of age. He came to this vicinity in early manhood. He was a member of the 10th Pennsylvania Reserves or the One Hundred and Ninety-Second regiment after consolidation. Funeral services over the remains of Mr Rhodes were conducted at the M E church at 2 o'clock Sabbath afternoon. Rev J F Black was the officiating clergyman, who preached a most eloquent funeral sermon. A choir composed of Mrs J C Drake and Miss Zepha Corel, and Messrs John Bruner and J L Hale, sang a number of selections appropriate to the occasion. Miss Pearle Corel presided at the organ. The remains were interred in the Riceville cemetery. Messrs Matthew Merchant, D N Scott, C W Todd, H R Corel, Peter Beabower and S Z Balley acted as pall bearers. Deceased is survived by his wife and one brother, Mr. Newton Rhodes, my grandfather, of Spartansburg."
