L.C. DUNBAR DIES SATURDAY EVENING AT CARL DUNBARS
PIONEER FARMER NEARING NINETY TAKEN, FUNERAL MONDAY AFTERNOON
Following a long lingering period of weakness, “Uncle Lute” Dunbar died Saturday afternoon at the home of his son Carl about ½ mile east of town.
Louis Carson Dunbar was nearly 90 years of age and he had spent nearly all of those years in the immediate vicinity of Brighton, mostly as a farmer until he retired because of age.
He was born, however, at Colfax, Ind. On April 2, 1850. In 1884 he was married to Miss Eliza Stacy. They were parents of six children, five of whom survive their father. The sons are William of Weliston, Carl of Brighton, Bert of Keota, and the daughters are Mrs. Charles Anderson of Davenport and Mrs. Farrell Huston of Burlington. Two brothers, Charles of Minneapolis and Oliver of Washington and a sister, Mrs. Jane Bower of Darlington, Ind. together with 28 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, make up the list of his other relatives.
Mr. Dunbar’s first wife died many years ago and after remaining single several years he was married to Mrs. Jane Richardson, who died about ten years ago. He moved to town about the time of this marriage and made his home here thereafter.
Following the death of his second wife, his sister, Mrs. Jane Bower, came and kept house until about three years ago. Since that time Mr. Dunbar has lived at homes of his children.
Funeral was conducted from the Methodist church here, of which he was a life time member, on Monday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev. E.S. Hehner, Six grandsons were pallbearers.
