Ervin Fredrick Eider, 74, died in his home in Duluth, Minn., on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003. He was born in Emerado, N.D. on January 2, 1929 to Jacob and Elizabeth Eider.

He farmed with his parents until he and his wife Myrtle moved to Duluth in 1951. Ervin was a United States Air Force veteran. He was employed at Universal Atlas Cement Co. for 25 years, and later worked as a custodian for the Duluth Schools - along with all his "second" jobs; cooking, truck driving etc. Ervin was a member of Duluth Gospel Tabernacle.

He loved being involved with his family; he was a Boy Scout Master, a Little League coach and helped build the first Little League field at Wheeler Fields, was a softball and broomball coach, and a Royal Ranger leader. Ervin was also a member of the West Duluth Community Club and an advisor to the West Duluth Youth Club. He loved camping at Boulder Lake and a highlight of his life was fishing in Canada with his sons.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Edna, Esther, Edwin and Edgar "Mike"; his son, Dwayne (1989); daughter, Raylene (1998); and infant daughter, Ruth (1950).

Ervin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Myrtle; children: Dianne, Yvonne, Dean (Debbie) Eider, Karyl Gunnarson, and Melanie (Richard) Lindbloom; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Eider; sister, Betty; brother-in-law, Walter; sister-in-law, Lois; grandchildren: Denise (Brent) Peterson, Desiree (Darrell) Weets, Stacey (Kevin) Casterline, Jacob, Kristopher, Cassandra, Samara, Cory Eider, Elizabeth and Billy Gunnarson and Tamika Gilbert four great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families, and many friends.

Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.
