Sally Ertel Hoff, a.k.a. Sally Hoff Hardie, passed away on Jan. 26, 2012, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Jan. 24, 2012, near her home in Woodville, Texas. She was 72 years old.

Sally was born in Williamsport, Pa., on June 17, 1939, and was the daughter of Ivan D. Ertel and Lillian Cosentine. Sally resided for many years in New Jersey in the late 1960s to early 1970s, and moved to the Houston area in 1972, where her father was historian at NASA. She resided again in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the late 1980s, but returned to Texas in 1992.

Sally obtained a B.S. in psychology from the University of Houston, and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston. An excellent student, she was a member of Phi Beta Cappa. Sally was an intelligent person, possessed by an inquisitive mind, who had many careers, including working as a systems analyst for American General Insurance Company in Houston, and Pruco in Newark, New Jersey, a child protective services worker in Pennsylvania and in Houston, Texas, and a mortgage broker in Houston.

Sally is survived by her third husband, Dennis Hardie, of Woodville, Texas; her daughter, Valla Dee Hoff and granddaughter, Audrey Lyckman of Bethesda, Md.; her son-in-law, Alvin Lyckman of Austin, Texas; her great aunt and uncle, Katherine and Herman Kreger of DuBoistown, Pa.; her cousins, Patricia Camille, Ray Engel and Kathryn Griffin of Williamsport, Pa., and Kenneth Engel of Lewisburg, Pa., and their spouses and children; stepchildren, Veronica Schrimshaw, Denise Collins and Kristopher Hardie of Houston, Texas, and Russell Hardie of Engram, Texas, and their spouses and children; and many other cousins in the Cosentine, Curchoe and Ertel families, and in-laws throughout the country.

Sally was also an avid animal lover, especially dogs, and had many dogs during her life. At the time of her death, she and her husband, Dennis, had five dogs, Elvis, Lucas, Molly, Peanut and Freddy; and one cat, Sammy.

According to her wishes, Sally was cremated and her ashes buried in a family plot at Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, Pa., on April 21, 2012, following a mass at 10:30 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Church, 653 Hepburn St., Williamsport.
