Mrs Marion Conolly, whose critical condition during the past several weeks has been the occasion of grave concern to countless friends, passed away at four-thirty o'clock Saturday morning at her home, corner of Milledge Avenue and Princeton Road. The funeral service will be held at the First Methodist church, of which she was a member, Sunday afternoon at four o'clock, Dr W P King, the pastor, officiating, assisted by Dr J C Wilkinson, of the First Baptist church.
The death of Mrs Conolly, while not unexpected, was nevertheless a great shock to her innumerable friends, for while little hope was held for her recovery, yet the valiant and courageous spirit which she exhibited in an effort to forestall the approach of the inevitable was heartening to those near and dear, despite professional advise that her recovery was not possible.
Mrs Conolly was born 31 years ago at Dublin, Ga, the daughter of the late Col and Mrs T L Griner. Her childhood was spent in her native city, but later the family moved to Fitzgerald, Ga., where she and Dr Marion W Conolly were married in 1913 and soon afterwards took up their residence in Athens, Ga. As Miss Katie Griner, the deceased was one of the most popular young girls in her girlhood home and on coming to Athens thirteen years ago as Mrs Marion Conolly, her magnetic personality and sincerity of nature quickly won the devoted affection of countless friends to whom her untimely passing is an irreparable loss.
Besides her husband, Dr Marion W Conolly, she is survived by one daughter, Miss Edith Conolly; one son, Master Marion Conolly, Jr; one sister Mrs George Couch of Jacksonville, Fla; one brother, Mr L L Griner of Fitzgerald; aunt, Mrs J K Staten of Tampa, Fla, and two cousins, Miss Mary Alderman of Atlanta, and Miss Abbie Winkinson of Atlanta, for whom there is widespread sympathy in their bereavement.
The funeral is this afternoon, conducted by Bernstein Brothers Funeral Home at the First Methodist chuch, followed by interment at Oconee cemetery.
