Ewell Thomas Ray, 85, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Fair View Transitional Health Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, with Larry Jones, pastor, of Albany, officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

He was born May 1, 1914, in Woodland Mills, Tenn.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. In July 1958, he married Pearl Sutton. He moved to Grants Pass in 1969 from Buena Park, Calif. He was a custodian for the Josephine County School District until retiring in 1985.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Shelby J. Ray of Kentucky; three stepdaughters, Wilma Sutton and Marian Trettin, both of Grants Pass, and Betty Frownfelter of Grand Ronde; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
