The Beloit Daily Call of Sat. Mar 21, 1914

M. J. Arnoldy, who had been in business for forty years in Tipton, entered into his eternal rest yesterday.

It is with great regret that we are called upon this evening to chronicle the death of Mat J. Arnoldy, who died yesterday afternoon at his home in Tipton, with the business interests of which town he has been actively identified for 40 years.

Mr. Arnoldy had been ailing for the past few months, and his ailment which was of an internal nature having its seat in the stomach took on a serious aspect about a week ago and little hope being held out for his recovery, his family and relatives some of whom were in California, were hastily summoned to be with him in the closing hours of his earthy career.

The deceased gentleman, who was 66 years of age at the time of his death, went to Tipton 40 years ago from Dubuque, Ia., to take charge of a store that had recently been established in Tipton by an uncle shortly after the town was founded.

In the course of about a year, Mat Arnoldy was joined by his brother, Nicholas Arnoldy and a partnership was formed that has existed until the present time under the firm name of Arnoldy Bros., doing business as general merchants, in the well-known stone store building just at the entrance of the town by the road leading from the north.

The deceased gentleman, who was of a cheerful and kindly disposition, was, we believe, the oldest merchant doing business in Mitchell county, and the 40 years he had devoted to the interest of his store had made him the best known man in a large portion of both Mitchell and Osborne counties, where his death will be the cause of much sorrow and regret. He always took an active part in the public life of Pittsburg Township, in which the town of Tipton is situated, and also to some lesser extent in that of Mitchell County, as a whole, having from the year 1884 to that of 1887 served the people of the county as county commissioner from the Third district.

Mr. Arnoldy, who was left a widower a little over a year ago is survived by a family of two sons and three daughters, the former being Gustie of California and Walter of Tipton, and the latter Matilda Marie and Isabelle. Matilda was at one time a well-known teacher in Mitchell County, but moved to California some years ago, where, after following her vocation for a time, she entered a convent. Marie also adopted the teaching profession and is following it at the present time in the Tipton neighborhood. Isabelle, the youngest daughter, is married to Henry Streit, a well-known member pf the Tipton community.

The funeral of Mr. Arnoldy will be held tomorrow afternoon at Tipton at 3 o'clock and the interment of his remains will be made in the cemetery at that place.
