Eileen Joy Hoellein
(February 2, 1928 - December 20, 2011)
Eileen J. Hoellein, 83, of Athol, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Faulkton Healthcare Center in Faulkton, SD.
Her funeral will be Friday, December 23, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Congregation Church of Christ in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate.
Burial will follow in Northville cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. with the family present starting at 5:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Eileen was born February 2, 1928 near Orient, SD to Cecil and Mabel (Brachvogel) McNeely. When she was young, the family moved south west of Redfield near Cottonwood Lake. After a few years her family moved to a farm south of Northville. Eileen attended Redfield School and graduated from Athol High School. She received her Teaching Certificate from Aberdeen Teachers College. She taught in Doland and then several country schools. On June 9, 1948 she married Glenn Hoellein in Redfield. Together they lived on the family homestead south west of Northville, just a few miles from where she grew up. They lived on the farm until she entered the nursing home in Faulkton in August of this year.
Eileen and Glenn were members of the James Valley Square Dancing club and enjoyed dancing almost every weekend. Together they danced almost everywhere in SD and also in several different states. They were also members of the Tri-County Sam’s camping group.
She will be remembered for being a great cook, an avid reader and a loving wife and mother. Eileen was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn of 63 years, her two sons and daughters-in-law: Gary (Lynn) and Lyle (Diane) all of Athol; four grandchildren: Carl, Shawn, Jeremy and Dustin. She is also survived by two brothers and three sisters: Francis McNeely of Redfield, Marion Kennedy of Faulkton, Donna Rae (Daryl) Hogg of Faulkton, Leslie (Judy) McNeely of Coon Rapids, MN and Mary Lee (Gerald) Stevens of Faulkton and several nieces and nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Betty Jean Jackson.
