Born in Germany, his name was anglicized upon arrival; no know record of his German name; a suggestion from W.T. Block was his German name may have been Acker. Husband of Orinda Hester Ann Scott. He was a succesful lumberman; owner of the Cow Creek Tram Company, and Call Mercantile Company, in Call, Texas. Famous in the lumber industry in East Texas, his name appears on several Texas State Historical markers in Newton Co., Texas. Some of info. from the late East Texas historian W.T.Block of Nederland, Tex. One published account states that he served in the Union Army at the Battle of Shiloh & in the Indian Teritories after the war.
