Mary Esther and William Joseph Durbin, Sr. were married at House of Full Gospel Tabernacle in Newberg, Yamhill, Oregon.
He was in Japan during the surrender.

Mary Esther Durbin, 93, of Clovis died Thursday.
She was a homemaker.
Graveside: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clovis Cemetery.
Arrangements: Clovis Funeral Chapel.

Esther passed away after a long illness while in the care of Caring Heart Residential Living, Clovis, Ca, and recently also by St. Agnes Hospice.
Esther, 93, was born near Sun City, Kansas, subsequently moving with her family to Colorado and Oregon and in 1938, married the love of her life William J. Durbin, Sr. In 1941, they moved to Turlock. Ca, had a son, William, while Bill, Sr. served in the Pacific in the Navy. Esther became a homemaker.
Regretting not being allowed to complete her schooling, at age 50, she went back to school and graduated High School in 1969 on the National Honor Society.
In 1988, being retired and "empty-nesters", they moved to Fresno, Ca to be closer to family in Clovis, Ca. At the time of William Senior's death in 1999, they were married 61 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers.
She is survived by her son, William "Bill" Durbin, Jr. and his wife Linda; grandson, Kevin and his wife Susan; granddaughter, Kari Lynn Smith; and four great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held by Clovis Funeral Chapel, at Clovis Cemetery, on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 2:00pm.
