By the 1900 US Census, the family had moved back to Bourbon County, Kansas. His father was 71 and retired. Later that year after the Census was taken, John's father, Robert, died, and was buried in the local cemetery {Atlanta Cemetery in Atlanta, Logan County, Kansas}.
John William Dawes married Martha Elizabeth Thompson on 25 Sept 1907 in Nevada, Vernon, Missouri.
By the 1920 Census, John was married with 3 living children in the household and he was working for the Post Office as a Money Clerk.
