Sweet, very mannerly, but firm in managing household and raising son. Nursed her father during his illness and early death. Cared for her mother until death. Managed household and nursing of her husband during his battles with prostate cancer.
Always called her son Charles, refusing to use any nicknames for him.
Her nickname was "Mamie" ... though, many also called her by given name Mary.
Volunteered with Red Cross during wartime.
Had back problems and always wore heavy, stiff corset. Also, back legs tendons were so tight from always wearing heels that she couldn't walk barefoot.
When older, wore her naturally curly hair short. After washing it, she would just press her fingers into her hair to make lovely natural waves.
Loved going out to dinner at favorite restaurants in New Philadelphia and local area as well as walking to nearby Goshen Dairy shop for ice cream.
Enjoyed having popcorn and small glass of ginger ale or grapefruit soda to watch television.
Had a stroke/ heart attack on home staircase and fell down stairs. Home: 247 Ray Ave NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio. Although bedridden in dining room hospital bed since last bout of prostate cancer, husband Charles heard her fall, went to her & called ambulance as well as his son. She died Union Hospital in Dover.
Ohio Birth Record shows birth as 1888, though husband put 1889 on gravestone and death certificate.
