L.M. Essex of Miami, died Saturday Dec. 26, 2009, at his home. He was 83.

Mr. Essex was born June 27, 1926, in Fairland, to Art and Eva (Brice) Essex.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a Veteran of Rolling W unit 89th infantry/European Theater earning seven battle stars. He was a life member of the Welch V.F.W. and president of the Miami Horsemans Association. He was an avid fisherman and horse trainer. He worked at B.F.Goodrich as a tire maker.

He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers Mutt and Ray and two sisters Cornellia Sparkman and Ardie Unger, step-daughter Phyllis Terry and two step-grandsons Brandon Terry and Eric Bauer.

He married Maysell Bauer on June 19, 1974, and she survives of the home.

Additional Survivors include one son Lawson Essex and wife Carol of Grove; one daughter Nancy Goforth and husband Dick of Miami; two step-sons Dave Bauer and wife Chris of Monte Vista, Colo., and Dennis Bauer and wife Jan of Commerce; two granddaughters, Kelsey Young and husband Clint of Bartlesville and Holly Goforth of Miami; three step-grandaughters, Jennifer Witten and husband Kurt of Miami, Jessica Bell and husband Kevin of Miami, and Jaycee Bauer of Commerce; one step-grandson Michael Bauer of Colorado Springs, Colo; two great-grandchildren McKinsey Jolee and Chace Young of Bartlesville; and one sister and her husband, Ardith and Joe Mercer.

Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the First Christian Church in Miami. Pastor Leon Weece will officiate.

Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #147 of Miami.

Pallbearers will be: Eldon Mercer, Daryl Mercer, Ron Sparkman, David Sparkman, Mitch Horner and Troy Lee Essex. Honorary pallbearers will be: Kim Carrigan, Homer Unger, and Joe Mercer.
