Arthur Wakeland Carver was the son of Edward Worthington Carver and Martha Almira Bridgford. Wakeland was the maiden name of his maternal grandmother. Uncle Art attended Normal School in Kansas and became a teacher. He taught for a time in Kansas, and then moved to Los Angeles County and taught. By 1918, he was a teller for the Bank of Italy (Bank of America today). He married Bertha Esther Brown about 1904, and they became the parents of Margaret, Mary B. and Arthur William.
