Miss Willis was a graduate of Washington College, Chestertown, and received her master's degree from the University of Virginia.
In 1965, she began her career in teaching, first at Rock Hall Elementary, and later at Worton Elementary. From 1971 to 1991, she was principal at Millington Elementary, with five years at both Millington and Galena Middle School. She retired in 1991 after 26 years of service with the Kent County board of education.
