He was born Aug. 23, 1909, at Mobjack, Mathews County, Va., and lived in Norfolk most of his life. A son of the late Herbert S. and Nellie Mae White Rockefeller, he was preceded in death by his brothers, W.S. Rockefeller and C.K. Rockefeller.
For most of his life he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
Mr. Rockefeller had been employed by the C&O and Seaboard railways with 19 years of service. He retired as president of Miller's Dairy and Miller's Spring Water and was a
past president of the Dairy Council of Tidewater.
He was a longtime member of Park Place United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer, chairman of the Trustees, chairman of the Administrative Board and president of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a 39-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Norfolk, a Toastmaster, a 32nd Degree Mason with a 60-year membership in Atlantic Lodge
No. 2.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lena Echols Rockefeller; a son, Herbert C. Rockefeller of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Jane R. Battin of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Sebring A. Rockefeller and Kristen R. Rockefeller of Virginia Beach and Linda B. Munger and Clayton C. Battin of Charlotte, N.C.
A service will be conducted at Park Place United Methodist Church, 500 W. 34th St., Norfolk, at 1 p.m. Saturday by Dr. Charles H. Smith and the Rev. Francis E. Collins.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Park Place United Methodist Church, 500 W. 34th St.,
Norfolk, Va. 23508, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.
