Born February 20, 1923, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late George P. and Martha P. (Byerly) Greenholtz.
Anna was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover.
She and her husband "Pat" owned and operated the Penn Villa Restaurant, in Hanover for 15 years from 1970 to 1985. In her earlier years, Anna worked for her father's business, "Greenholtz Pretzel" (now Revonah Pretzel).
Abba was a member of the first graduating class of Hanover's LPN (Licenced Practical Nurse) program and went on to work at Hanover Hospital, the Brethren Home, Homewood and Village Green Nursing homes.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Anna was a big sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering for the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys. She also was a past member of the Hanover Elks ladies auxiliary.
Mrs. Bankert is survived by three children, James Bankert and wife, Pamela, West Union, WV, David Bankert and wife, Deborah, Spring Grove and Carol Bair and husband, Thomas, York; her daughter-in-law, Janice Bankert, Gardners; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Bankert.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Anna Bankert will be held at 1:30 p.m., March 2, 2012, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, with Rev. Jack R. Hoffman officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow the service in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
