Master Sergeant William Raymond Spence "Rocky" was enlisted into the United States Army for a period of twenty-three years. He fought for our country in the Republic of Vietnam, Operation Glacier Strike 76. He was a member of the Army Special Forces Unit,82nd Airborne Division,504th Infantry. Master Sergeant Spence was awarded several medals during his tour. The Bronze Star, The Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallentry W/Palm. MSG. William R. Spence died on March 22, 2004, of stage five esophagal cancer, as a result of exposure of Agent Orange. This chemical was used in Vietnam to eliminate the leaves on the trees and bushes, which kept the enemy from hiding in these places.
