Rites Today
Services for Louis DeLoche Browning, Alumni Ave., were held at 3 p.m. today at Fuqua Funeral Home.

The Rev. Sidney Maddox, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Paul Keneipp, pastor of St. John Methodist Church, officiated, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Browning, prominent businessman, civic and church leader, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Jennie Stuart Hospital. He had been hospitalized for the past 14 days.

He was president of Elk Brand Manufacturing Co., which he helped to organize as the Overall Manufacturing Co., of Bradfordsville in 1907. The company later moved to Lewisburg before being established in this city in 1916.

Mr. Browning was also a past president of the Rotary Club, a former deacon in the First Baptist Church, a director of Hopkinsville Federal Savings and Loan Association and First City Bank and Trust Company and he had served as secretary of the board of trustees of Bethel College for a number of years.

He had also served on the city school board and was a former director of the Southern Garment Manufacturers Association. Mr. Browning assisted in the organization of the Christian County branch of the American Cancer Society.

He was born Jan. 3, 1887 in Lewisburg, the son of the late George Strother and Eliza Williston Sutton Browning. His wife, the former Jamie Arnold, died Aug. 4, 1983.

Survivors Include a son, Dr. L. D. Browning Jr., of Stamford, Conn., three daughters, Miss Willie Steele Browning, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Horace Bush, Cadiz and Mrs. John Ely, Hopkinsville: a brother, George F. Browning, Bridgeport, Ala.; a sister, Mrs. P. G. Smith, Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren, a nephew and several nieces.

Active pallbearers were: Noble Hall Sr., Raymond McKinney Sr., W. D. Talbert, Curtis Brasher, Carter Owen and Gilmer Pursley.

Honorary pallbearers were: Frank Yost, Golladay La Motte, Pollard White, Thomas L. Smith Cy Williamson Jr., C. F. McKee, Homer Killebrew, Austin Stewart, Lacy Joiner Jr., Noble Hall Jr., C. K. Wood, Clarence Boyd and Herman Southall.
