Robert Rankin Williams married Catharine Messimer July 26, 1838 in Greene Co., TN. To their union, ten children were born.

Robert and Catharine were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a Democrat, and was a justice of the peace for six years. He also held the office of associate county judge.

After Catharine's death, Robert married Rachel Van Hoose Dickerson, widow of James Porter Dickerson, on 18 June 1871 in Washington County.

OBITUARY
Robert Williams died Monday afternoon at his home near Sulphur City and was buried at 2 p.m. today at Elkins. Deceased was in his 93rd year and came to Arkansas from Greenville, Tenn. in 1852. When a young man he was a neighbor of Andrew Johnson, later the 17th President of the U.S., and was a patron of the latter who was engaged in the tailoring business. Uncle Bob Williams was a good man and a highly respected citizen. [The Springdale News 3/10/05]
