She married Israel Anderson in Hancock on June 2, 1872. They became the parents of eight children, four of whom--Charles, William, Jeanette, and Hulda--survived Maria. Her father also survived Maria, who died at a relatively young age due to tuberculosis.
Maria was preceded in death by her brother Johan and her mother, another Maria. She was buried in the Hancock Protestant Cemetery, which has since been paved over.
