William Braun was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on January 24, 1938, the son of Wilfred and Edna (Wendt) Braun. He graduated from St. Norbert's High School in DePere in 1956 where he was awarded All-Conference and he was selected as an All-State football and basketball player. After high school he attended Marquette University.
In 1957 Mr. Braun joined the family business, Braun Brothers Lumber Company in Athens, WI, as the fourth generation of Brauns to be associated with the company. In 1985 he became president of the company and served in that capacity until his death.
Bill Braun was a member of the Retail Lumbermen's Association and the Retail Hardware Association. In 1986 he was awarded a plaque from the Athens Area Fire Department in recognition of his 25 years with the department, ten of which were as fire chief.
On August 30, 1958, William Braun was united in marriage in Wuertzberg, WI to Leone Jagodzinski. Together they raised two children.
