John W. Daniel was a mayor of Saint John (1900-1902), a MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly), and a senator. He was born in 1846 and died in 1933. His wife, Jessie P., died in 1921. On Oct. 25, 2004, the 20th Maine Company "I" Voluntary Infantry re-enactment group took part in a graveside memorial service at Fernhill Cemetery honoring him. (See: "Saint John Civil War soldiers to be honoured" by Mike Mullen in the Telegraph-Journal.) There is a beautiful colour photo in the article of one of the re-enactors beside his grave.
