On the first day of November last, a sad accident took place at Honey Brook, Chester Co. Benson Buchanan, a lad aged about 14 years, son of Andrew Buchanan, and a brother of Mrs. B. J. Silliman and who spent some time in this place last summer was out gunning a short distance from his father's house. Seeing a snake he attempted to kill it with his gun when it was discharged, the load of shot entering his right leg about three inches above the knee making a frightful wound. The limb not healing it was amputated, but blood poisoning had set in and he died the next day after the amputation (The Northern Tier Gazette, Troy, Pennsylvania, February 24, 1881).
