She was born May 2, 1909, in Bryan County, Georgia, to Daniel & Sallie (Burnsed) Bell. Dula attended Georgia Normal College in Statesboro, Georgia, after which she taught school in Effingham County, Georgia. Dula graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital, in Savannah, Georgia as a Registered Nurse. She practiced many years as an RN in the Jacksonville hospitals and during the last of her career, did private duty nursing. Her faith was Baptist and she was a long standing member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church. She was a member of the Cavalet Club and participated in many of their charitable causes.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, C. Cary Mills, and by her grandson, Mark A. Hillard.
She is survived by her loving family: daughters Gloria C. Goolsby (James W., Sr.) Sugarland, Texas, Charlotte B. Hillard (Ervin); grandchildren James W. Goolsby Jr. (Carolyn) Houston, Texas, Linda A. Watson (David) Sugarland, Texas, Laurie L. Bilotta, Brenda K. Medders (Kevin); great-grandchildren; William and Michael Goolsby Houston, Texas, Lara & Emma Watson Sugarland, Texas, Audrey Bilotta, Mariah Medders; sister Ruth Bell Abercrombie and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care Dula received at the Atrium and The Community Hospice.
Memorial services will be held at 2PM Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., with Rev. Chris Coram officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 PM PM on Saturday prior to the services. Internment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Bryan County, Georgia at a later date.
